The first two lines of the new song by Hamburg post-punk outfit Goblyn already tell you what it is all about: „it’s really quite the problem, finding your own Goblyn“.
The times are crazy and make you even crazier. Everyone has their baggage to carry, their vices. It's about freeing yourself from that pressure, discovering and living out your own lust for irrationality and disobedience. The song, carried by crashing guitar riffs, is a soundtrack to unite: to encourage each other to be unreasonable together, to roam the streets, to let loose. And like a frenzy, it is all over after two minutes.
In line with this, the video by Eliza Penth, a conceptual from the city Leipzig, takes us to the industrial wastelands of Hamburg's suburbs. In scenes between smoking power plant chimneys and destroyed vegetation, the four Hamburgers release their own goblyns.
Goblyn met in 2019 at Molotow Club in Hamburg. From there they developed their own punk revival with a sound comparable to Idles, Show Me The Body, Viagra Boys. Confronting social fragmentation and the slight madness of modern life, their music always addresses the desire for connection, for community. With their first release "Wet Dogs" they first attracted attention in March 2020, now with "Goblyn" a second sample will follow.
